A day-long sailing trip in Brest Harbor

We’d already had the chance to sail along the coast twice and even take part in a trip on a historic sailing ship during the maritime festivals. However, the two of us had never experienced a real day of sailing aboard a traditional sailboat together.
This year, we set sail on a small, intimate sailboat with a skipper for a full day, stopping in Camaret-sur-Mer before heading back out to sea toward the Château de Brest. It was an experience we’d never tried before.
Taking a whole day off—away from work, planning for the season, and the daily grind—to simply enjoy the moment… that was exactly what we needed. It was a break that allowed us to reconnect as a couple and share a special moment together.
We were lucky enough to have perfect weather: just enough wind to propel the sailboat forward, but not too much; pleasant temperatures; and that Breton light that makes the scenery look even more beautiful.
And then there’s that special feeling the sea brings. Time seems to slow down. We see the coastline in a new light, chat with the skipper, and let ourselves be carried along by the boat’s rhythm. Even places we already know, like Camaret-sur-Mer or the Crozon Peninsula, reveal themselves from a completely different perspective.
If you're interested in trying it out
There are several ways to explore Brest Harbor:
-
A guided walking tour with Le Brestoa, starting at €22.
-
A full day aboard La Recouvrance, including a cruise and a stop in Camaret-sur-Mer (approximately €99 to €113, depending on the dates).
-
A sunset outing—perfect for a romantic evening.
-
Rent a motorboat or charter a boat with a skipper for a more personalized experience.
There's something for every budget and every taste.
One thing is certain: even when you think you know the region well, exploring it from the sea offers a completely different perspective.
And as is often the case after a day spent outdoors, listening to the rhythm of the waves, we came home tired… but with our heads full of wonderful memories.
